BITSAT 2020 – Exam Dates, Pattern, Syllabus and Preparation Tips

Birla Institute of Technology and Science, the sixth in the top 10 colleges in India, conducts an exclusive entrance examination for its admissions. Known as the Birla Institute of Technology & Science Admission Test (BITSAT), it is an online computer-based entrance examination for access to programs offered by BITS.
About BITS
BITS is a deemed university and is one among the six recipients of the Institute of eminence award. The main campus was established on Pilani, followed by expansion at Hyderabad, Goa, and Dubai. These four institutes have 15 departments in total. BITSAT exams admit candidates to undergraduate programs in any of these departments from institutes within India.
Do you know BITSAT well?
As mentioned before, BITSAT exam is a mandatory criterion for admission to integrated undergraduate programs offered at BITS. The followings are some useful information about BITSAT 2020.
- BITSAT exam will be conducted during May-June every year
- It is not a one-day exam and can be undertaken anytime during the afore-mentioned period
- The test is conducted once in a year at several locations in India
- Candidates can choose preferred locations, time and date while applying for the test
- A candidate will fill only one application form for admissions to all of BITS 2020 within India
- The maximum number of attempts to BITSAT exam will be 2
- Only one attempt per year is allowed
- BITSAT questions library is protected by an advanced security system
- Test scores will be displayed right after the completion of the test
- Candidates on the waiting list can choose to remain in the list or withdraw from the competition within the stipulated deadline
- The waiting list is prepared for admission to the Institute
- The waitlist is not prepared based on a particular course
- Approximately 3 lakh candidates undertake the exam
- Sliding up the preferences will not be entertained until the entire admission process is completed
- In addition to the 3 BITS, NIIT University Neemrana, Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), Samalkha Group of Institutions (SGI) accept BITSAT scores for admissions
BITSAT 2020 Exam Paper
- Duration and pattern
- The paper will include an online exam for 3 hours
- The questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency, Logical reasoning, and Mathematics/Biology
- The question paper will have multiple choice questions only
- No special computer skill is required to undertake the test online
- The syllabus for the BITSAT exam will be same as NCERT syllabus
- A sample-practice test series will be available on the official website one month before the exam
- Since the exam will be conducted every day during a period, the questions will not be repetitive
- The difficulty level and content will be the same across the period
- Medium – BITSAT 2020 will be conducted only in English medium
- Number of questions
BITSAT 2020 question paper will have a total of 150 questions
- Physics – 40 questions
- Chemistry – 40 questions
- English – 15 questions
- Logical reasoning – 10 questions
- Mathematics/ biology – 45 questions
- Marking Scheme
- Correct answers will be rewarded with three marks, and incorrect answers will be penalized with negative marking of 1 mark
- Zero marks will be provided for unattempted questions
- Cut-off scores calculation
- Cut-off scores are calculated streamwise
- Scores are decided based on difficulty level, the total number of candidates who undertook the exam and pass-proportion of the candidates

To enroll and admit to BITS 2020, the following eligibility criteria are to be fulfilled
- Candidates must have cleared 12th standard from government recognized board with the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (for B.E.), and Biology (B.Pharm.)
- Adequate proficiency in English is also mandatory
- While there is no limit on the age
- Only candidates who have cleared the 12th standard a year before and on the year of exam will be allowed
- An aggregate mark of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and a compulsory 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
- Candidates from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology can also apply for the Pharmacy program
- Board exam scores for 12t standard from 2019 will only be valid
- Candidates who have passed 12th standard in 2018 will not be allowed to appear for BITSAT exam 2020
BITSAT 2020 Exam Syllabus

Selection for Admission to Bits 2020
Scoring a good rank is not the only requisite for admissions to BITS 2020. Take a look at the following conditions to get finally admitted to the institutes. Failing to produce any of the following will lead to the cancellation of admission to BITS.
- Candidates must pay the fees before the deadline mentioned in the admit card
- A certificate from government registered doctor stating that they are medically fit
- Submission of all original mark sheets and certificates
- Undertaking that they fulfill all the eligibility criteria
- Physical presence on the day of admission
Some Useful Tips for BITSAT Exam 2020
- Admissions are purely based on merit. The merit rankings are calculated based on BITSAT exam scores and 12th standard results
- Non-Residents of India (NRI) will not have a separate exam but a different admission procedure
- International students admissions scheme admits students who have citizenship other than from India
- Central and all state toppers will be given direct admission irrespective of their BITSAT 2020 scores
- Make short note of formulae and equations and practice well
