The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) conducts and calculates the fate of students of the state in their admission to engineering, architectural, and pharmacological courses offered by the government, and self-financing colleges in the state.

More About WBJEE Cutoff
The WBJEE colleges cut off scores are the basis for two merit lists prepared by the Board conducting WBJEE
- The General Merit Rank (GMR) list for admission to engineering courses
- The Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR) list for admission to pharmacy courses
- The colleges accepting WBJEE as an admission criterion will have their individual cut off lists for different courses
- The results of WBJEE will be released before the cut off scores
- The admission procedure will have multiple rounds of counseling with descending cut off scores
- Candidates who score above the cut off will only be eligible for the counseling process
- The cut off scores will be published with WBJEE opening and closing ranks 2020
- Candidates who have appeared for JEE Mains and have a qualifying cut off score can also apply to WBJEE to fill in 10% of sears in self-financing colleges in the state
Calculating WBJEE Cutoff Marks 2020
The board calculates the WBJEE 2020 cut off scores for based on the following
- Total number of candidates who have applied for WBJEE 2020
- Number of candidates who appear for WBJEE 2020 exam
- Total number of vacancies available in the colleges participating in the admission process of 2020
- The difficulty level of the exam which will be calculated based on percentile marks obtained by the candidates
- Previous years’ trend in cutoff scores
The cut-off scores are based on the marking scheme of the paper. The question paper consists of 3 sections with different marking scheme
Category 1
- Only 1 option out of the others here are correct.
- All the question have 1 mark.
- ¼ marks is deducted for negative marking.
Category 2
- Only 1 option out of the others here are correct.
- All the individual question have 2 marks.
- ½ marks is deducted for negative marking.
Section 1 (Detailed)
- Consists of questions with only 1 correct option
- Each correct answer carries 1 mark while the wrong answer carries a negative mark of -0.25
Section 2
- Consists of questions with only 1 correct option
- Each correct answer carries 2 marks while the wrong answer carries a negative mark of -0.5
Section 3
- Consists of questions with more than 1 correct option
- Each correct answer carries 2 marks
- Partial or totally incorrect answers carry no negative mark while the mark to be given will be calculated the based number of correct options
Know the Difference in WBJEE Cutoff Marks 2020
There are 3 different WBJEE cut off scores as follows
Eligibility Cut off
- This cut off score is looked upon as the minimum score required for qualifying the WBJEE
- Along with the eligibility cut off score, the candidates are expected to have an aggregate of 45% in mathematics, physics, and chemistry in the 12th standard and also a 30% score in English
Qualifying Cut off
- The qualifying cut off scores is calculated based on the range and percentile of marks scored by the candidates in WBJEE 2020.
- Not all the candidates who have eligibility cut off score need not be marked with a qualifying cutoff
Admission Cut off
- Each participating institute will release their individual cut off score based on the number of applications
- The admission cut off scores will depend on the institute and will also differ between departments and categories
Cut off Score and Merit List
The Board calculates cutoff scores to prepare a merit list ranking to qualify WBJEE. The ranks are calculated based on the maximum and minimum marks obtained and percentile of marks obtained in each year.

Cut off score for GMR
- The cut-off scores for GMR are calculated based on marks obtained in mathematics, physics, and chemistry/
- The candidates can also apply to pharmacy courses based on the GMR also.
- This cut off score is applicable for admission to engineering, architectural, and technological courses across the state.
Cut off score for PMR
- The cut-off scores for PMR are calculated based on marks obtained in biology, physics, and chemistry.
- The candidates with PMR can apply only to pharmacy courses across the state.

Facts Check
- A total of 36,000 candidates have applied for WBJEE 2020 for their admissions to 104 participating colleges
- Jadavpur University and Calcutta University are the top most competitive institutes and will have higher WBJEE cutoff marks than other participating colleges
- For GMR, the candidates should have taken both paper 1 and paper 2 while for PMR, the ranking is based on paper 2
- Candidates appearing for only paper 1 will not be considered for calculation of WBJEE cut off 2020 and the admission procedure in WBJEE 2020
- There are separate cut off scores for categories like SC/ST/OBC A/OBC B/PwD
- One can look up to seat matrix released on the official website () for course-wise and institute-wise availability of seats before and during the counseling procedure
- Candidates who have qualified WBJEE will have to register online with a fee based on preferred course/institute in order to participate in the counseling procedure
